Youth Group Events Recaps
Friday February 7, 2020
In what has become a tradition and family favorite, the Youth Group hosted the annual Games Night. Families and friends played a variety of board and card games. Drinks and snacks were provided. It was a great time of fellowship, spanning all generations.
Friday January 10, 2020
We had some fun with numbers, making cookies, games and some reflection on the importance numbers play in the Bible. We had an individual quiz game and a team chair version of human Tic Tac Toe with questions on various numbers in scripture. We ended the night with a game of Four Square with some added optional special rules to add excitement.
Friday December 13, 2019
Youth Christmas Movie Night. We began with a game to introduce ourselves. Participants wrote their names and a brief introduction about themselves on Christmas cards. Then, standing in a circle, cards were randomly passed left or right through cues heard in the Nativity story. The participants read aloud the card of someone else’s introduction. Finally, the Youth voted on viewing The Christmas Chronicles movie. Delicious cookies and eggnog were served.
Friday November 8, 2019
Theme of the Armour of God: We began with an Iron Man video intro and learned how to protect what is inside us with a sample breast plate, shield and many sword examples. Even the humble orange rinded versus pealed taught us the same valuable lesson. Delicious candied apples were made with toppings. Fun with dressing up as mummies and jack-o-lanterns. We ended the evening eating our apples and viewing Carpool Karaoke featuring Kanye West‘s new gospel album and choir.
Friday October 4, 2019
Building a lending library: Power tools, munchies and pop! Pieces were pre-cut, pre-painted and with the help of two handymen our youth participated in building the library. This project is part of the 75th anniversary of our church. We also had a competition on building a tower out of linguine, tape and string using the story of the Leaning Tower of Pisa as inspiration.
Friday September 6, 2019
Welcome Back BBQ: Burgers and Dogs. Theme of Change and being Kind in our schools. We saw faith stories from pro athletes Stephen Curry and Tim Tebow. We also baked cookies and treats for Rally Sunday’s fellowship time.
Some of our past themes have included:
- Faith and Duct Tape – how useful is what we learn at church?
- Our Spooky Faith – what should we make of the supernatural stories we find in the Bible?
- New Year, Same God – what do Godly new year’s resolutions look like, and how can we keep them?
At different times in the year, we also do fellowship events that focus on spending time together, including:
- Games Night
- Movie Night
- Skating on the Canal
Youth at various stages in their faith journey are welcome to join us to meet new friends and ask questions in an open, judgement-free environment. We hope to see you soon!
